EVs are marketing devices for car companies. So they can claim green credentials to governments. Tesla cars are for the wealthy corporate elite. It is about depreciation - the warranty on an EV battery is about 8years - you have to be able to afford to depreciate your car in 8 years. Personally I expect my car to depreciate over 15-20 years. Also, if everyone in your neighbourhood plugged-in their EVs when they came home from work - you would all be plunged into a blackout - no lighting, no electric cooking - that is a dreadful world I do not want to live in.
