The elevation of the electric car into a religion will destroy the auto industry. 90% of people will hold on to the petrol/diesel cars they currently own. My ten year old BMW has another 15 years in it easily. They can't tax people off the road in a democratic country so they'll subsidise electric cars as a means to achieve this outcome. Only the wealthiest 'party officials' will own electric cars in the future and that is what they want. Electric cars are luxurious gadgets for the wealthy. Like any status symbol they can look down on the great-unwashed in their dirty, smelly, noisy cars. Be grateful they love carbon capture and electric cars. And not religion, the proletariat, or war. Thousands of poor and elderly will die from fuel poverty & many will no longer afford a car. But far more would perish on other, much bloodier, political altars.
