You have to accept that some things happen to us which are inexplicable and beyond reason. It took me about 10 years to accept this when my dad had a cortical atrophy - before the little reasoning machine in my thick head just gave up. It was a bitter struggle. Be warned. I wonder if Carl Jung might be more useful to you than the stoics - but get help wherever you can find it. You will need it.
